Lonnie Hutson

Lonnie Hutson is an artist and co-owner of Sundog Expeditions. He holds a degree in architecture from the University of Washington (Seattle) and an MFA from the University of Idaho (Moscow).

After he started guiding as an undergraduate, Lonnie went on to work for the legendary river outfitter Martin Litton at Grand Canyon Dories. He has been guiding and outfitting since then. In 1999, he and his wife, Gail Siegel, also an artist, formed Salmon River Dories, Inc., which now does business as Sundog Expeditions.

A direct influence of Lonnie’s time spent on river - and the subject of his artwork for the past two decades - is the relationship between the natural environment and man and their mutual impact.

He is currently working on a new series of handmade paper relief sculptures entitled “The Idaho Fish Project.” Documenting the 38 native Idaho fish species, the project is planned for exhibition at the University of Idaho’s Prichard Art Gallery next year.
