Sequoia ForestKeeper Fundraiser
with special guest Martin Litton

June 1-5 , 2009 (5 days)
$1,275 per person/Deposit $300

Grande Ronde River, Oregon

John Muir called Giant Sequoia’s “natures masterpiece;” “the greatest living thing;” and a “king tree.”

Sequoia trees are the world’s largest living things, reaching ages of 3,200 years, diameters of 38 feet, heights of 300 feet, and individual weights of 600 tons.

The Sequoia National Forest is a complex and abundant forest ecosystem that is home to hundreds of plants and animal species including the California spotted owl and the Pacific fisher.  In spite of it stature though the Sequoia ecosystem is threatened.

The Sequoia ForestKeeper’s mission is to protect and restore the ecosystems of the southern Sierra Nevada including the Giant Sequoia National Monument and the Sequoia National Forest through monitoring, enforcement, education and litigation.

Sundog Expeditions is a proud member of Sequoia ForestKeeper and for the third time we will be donating trip profits to support the organization’s efforts.

In 2006 and 2007 we conducted the trips on Grande Ronde River, in 2008 we took a summer dory trip through classic Idaho whitewater down the lower gorge of the Salmon river. Our 2009 trip returns to the Grande Ronde River,one of Martin Litton's favorite river trips.

This fully guided dory trip will be based out of Lewiston, Idaho where guests may stay at the Red Lion hotel before and after. The trip price includes roundtrip van transportation between the hotel and the river put-in and take-out and all meals from lunch on May 11 through lunch on May 15.

Sequoia ForestKeeper board member and river legend Martin Litton will join us for the very special trip.

Sequoia ForestKeeper achieves its mission by:

• conducting forest monitoring;
• initiating surveys and gathering data on the environmental health of Sequoia resources;
• alerting the public and agencies to potential threats to the resources;
• promoting use of scientifically=based decision making;
• participating in agency processes and appealing those decisions where necessary;
• supporting and advocating the creation of new laws, regulations and policies where existing ones are insufficient;
• utilizing education, media outreach, advocacy, volunteer monitoring, scientific analysis, dialogue and, where necessary, litigation to achieve these ends.
